African Okra Soup with Kombo - Swala, also called "Swala", or "Mula Kombo ta Bamia", is a specialty of the Kakwa tribe from Yei, South Sudan. It is a vegetarian, low calorie soup free of gluten.

- Okra 2 cups of okra cut into ¼ inch cross-sectional slices, (remember to slice and discard both end tips)
- ½ cup chopped onions
- 2 to matoes diced
- Kombo or ½ teaspoon of bicarbonate soda
- 1 tablespoon oil
- Table salt
- Water 3 cups to 4 cups
Place 1 cup of water in a pot.
Titrate your Kombo or add ½ teaspoon of bicarbonate soda.
Add chopped onions, and bring to a boil on medium heat setting on a stove.
Add sliced okra. Add 2 cups of water.
Cook for 15 minutes, until okra pieces are soft.
Add tomatoes.
Add 1 tablespoon of oil. Table salt to desired taste. Hot pepper is optional.
Turn heat off after 5 minutes. Serve.
