In the vibrant city of Khartoum, Sudan, a young girl named Noela Liyong Taban showed exceptional promise from an early age. As a student at the prestigious Unity High School, she excelled in her studies, particularly in English literature and storytelling, winning numerous awards and setting herself apart as a remarkable talent. Driven by a thirst for knowledge and a desire to make a difference, Noela journeyed to the United States to pursue higher education at the College of New Rochelle. Her academic prowess and determination caught the attention of many, and she soon achieved a groundbreaking milestone: she was accepted into Georgetown Medical School, becoming one of the first South Sudanese to do so.

At Georgetown, Noela’s dedication and passion for medicine flourished. She excelled in her studies and went on to specialize in anesthesiology, achieving yet another historic feat by becoming the first South Sudanese-American anesthesiologist. Over the next two decades, Dr. Noela Mogga would amass a wealth of experience, taking on some of the most challenging medical assignments and earning a reputation for her exceptional skill and compassion.

Despite her success in the medical field, Dr. Noela had an entrepreneurial spirit that beckoned her to new ventures. But Noela’s ambitions didn’t stop there. Drawing from her rich cultural heritage and a desire to promote wellness, she launched Taste of South Sudan, a health, wellness, and beauty business. This venture was not just about products; it was about telling a story. Taste of South Sudan became the first international company to sell Shea Butter Nilotica, a unique and pure shea butter sourced locally from South Sudan and Uganda. The business expanded its range to include hair butter, hair oil, skincare, and lip balm, all while sharing stories of South Sudan’s food, culture, and arts with the world. As of today, Taste of South Sudan recipes and Youtube videos provide the most comprehensive source of authentic South Sudanese cuisine available worldwide. Through Taste of South Sudan, Dr. Noela Mogga not only brought a piece of her homeland to a global audience but also empowered local communities by sourcing ingredients directly from them.
